To begin with this recipe, we have to prepare a few ingredients. You can have tangy and spicy rasam using 16 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.

The ingredients needed to make Tangy and Spicy Rasam:
  1. Prepare 2 big tomatoes
  2. Get 6-7 tamarind pieces
  3. Make ready 1/2 tbsp tuvar dal
  4. Prepare 8-10 methi seeds(fenugreek)
  5. Get 8-10 pepper corns
  6. Get 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  7. Make ready 1 tsp Coriander seeds
  8. Take 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  9. Take 2-3 dry red Chillies
  10. Take 1 bay leaf
  11. Get to taste Salt or black salt
  12. Make ready 1/2 tsp Asafoetida
  13. Take 5-7 garlic cloves
  14. Prepare 2 tsp Oil
  15. Prepare 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  16. Prepare 1/2 tsp coriander leaves

The secret of a good Rasam lies in good quality ghee and Store bought rasam powder cannot match the robust flavours found in homemade spice blends. South Indian spicy and tangy curry known as Rasam, this is the most delicious rasam I've ever tasted… This is one of the vegetarian dishes commonly found in South India and a must dish for Sadya. Steps to make Tangy and Spicy Rasam:
  1. For Rasam powder ingredients :Dry roast them and then grind into grinder
  2. Side by side take tamarind and soak in water for 15 minutes
  3. Chop tomatoes and take out the tamarind pulp by squeezing the tamarind and take out the juice and keep all tadka ingredients and spices ready
  4. Take a pan heat and add 1.5tsp oil add mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, dry red chilli, asafoetida and garlic cloves one by one then add chopped tomatoes add salt and turmeric powder and mix them well and cover the lid for 4mins or so..
  5. Next open the lid the tomatoes turns mashy and then add rasam powder and 1.5 glass full of water and let the rasam boil for another 5-7mins
  6. Later you will observe that the rasam has thickend turn off the flame add coriander leaves to the rasam
  7. Enjoy them as a soup or have in your lunch or dinner with Rice.
