The ingredients needed to make Tomato Rasam:
  1. Prepare 1/2 tsp Toor Dal
  2. Make ready 1 tsp mustard seeds
  3. Prepare 1 tsp cumin seeds
  4. Prepare 1/2 tsp coriander seeds
  5. Prepare 1/4 tsp methi seeds
  6. Prepare 1/4 tsp hing
  7. Get 14-15 curry leaves
  8. Prepare 4 red dry whole chillies
  9. Take 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  10. Prepare 4 garlic cloves
  11. Prepare 2 tbs oil
  12. Take 3 chopped tomatoes
  13. Prepare 1 cup chopped coriander leaves with stems
  14. Make ready 1/2 cup Tamarind water
  15. Take 1& 1/2 cup water
  16. Prepare 1/2 tsp haldi powder
  17. Make ready to taste Salt

This is my Aunt's recipe that Rasam is the most simple thing to make, yet so complicated. Its the technique and the fresh. while, the preparation of tomato rasam recipe is very easy, but few key points for a perfect tomato saaru recipe. the taste of tomato rasam depends upon the time we boil the tamarind juice with. Without Tomato Rasam, meal is not complete. Instructions to make Tomato Rasam:
  1. Heat up a pan on low heat and dry roast all the spices until nice aroma comes.(Toor dal, mustard seeds,cumin seeds,methi dana, coriander seeds,hing,curry leaves,red chillies,garlic & black pepper powder)
  2. After cool down..Put them in a blender jar and make a course powder out of it.
  3. Heat up a pan with 2 tbsp of oil.Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, few curry leaves, red chilli, 3 finely chopped garlic and Saute them for 30 sec.
  4. Now add chopped Tomatoes as well as salt and haldi powder.Mash them with spatula and cook until get soft.
  5. Now add 1/2 cup Tamarind water. Cover it and cook for 2 mins. Add prepared dry roast masala and mix well.
  6. Now add 1 & 1/2 cup of water..let the water comes to a boil. Then add chopped coriander leaves with stems.
  7. Mix and cook for 1 min. Then switch off the flame and serve hot with steam rice.

Without Tomato Rasam, meal is not complete.
